This shawl can be done in any size with any yarn and appropriate size hook. Use a lighter weight yarn for a delicate shawl or use a yarn like I used for a real statement piece.

Any weight yarn: My sample was done with 2 hanks of Red Heart Boutique Silk Sari in Ravishing. You can read more about it HERE.
Any size hook: I used a K/6.5mm hook

Ch = chain
Eesc = extra extended single crochet
T-ch: turning chain
Notes
- Read all instructions before beginning.
- This shawl is worked flat.
Special Stitches
Extra extended single crochet (eesc): Insert hook into stitch indicated, pull up a loop, (yarn over, pull through 1 loop) 2 times, yarn over, pull through 2 loops.
Instructions
Ch 8.
Row 1 – (eesc, ch 2, eesc) in the 8th ch from hook.
Row 2 – Ch 5 (counts as a eesc, ch 2 from here on), turn, eesc in the same eesc, ch 2, eesc in the next eesc, leave the t-ch unworked.
Row 3 – Ch 5, turn, skip the 1st eesc, eesc in the next eesc, ch 2, (eesc, ch 2, eesc) in the 3rd ch of the t-ch.
Row 4 – Ch 5, turn, eesc in the same eesc, *ch 2, eesc in the next eesc; repeat from * across, leave the t-ch unworked.
Row 5 – Ch 5, turn, skip 1st eesc, *dc in the next eesc, ch 2; repeat from * to the tch, (eesc, ch 2, eesc) in the 3rd ch of the t-ch.
Repeat rows 4 and 5 until desired length is reached, fasten off, weave in ends.

The eesc sounds like a double crochet Howe is it different? Can you explain?

For double crochet you yarn over before inserting your hook into the stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over pull through TWO loops, yarn over, pull through TWO loops…It’s very different.

Lol, no worries. It feels a lot like a double crochet as you do it just with out the yarn over at the beginning but looks a lot different.
