If you can single crochet, double crochet and make a pom pom you can make the Alderwood Scarf Free Crochet Pattern scarf! Simple increases and decreases create a flattering shape to this piece.
I designed this scarf back in 2018 using self striping yarn (and it was beautiful!) I recently decided to revisit this design but a little more with some different yarn
My first sample is made in City Tweed by We Crochet. The main color is Orca with some Snowshoe blended in on one end. I think the additional color adds a little fun pop.

Option 1: City Tweed by We Crochet (55% Merino wool, 25% Superfine alpaca, 20% Donegal tweed; worsted; 164yrds/100g)
Color A: Snowshoe (1 skein), Color B: Orca (3 skeins)
Option 2: Tweed by KT and the Squid (80% Merino Wool, 15% Baby Alpaca, 5% Viscose; worsted; 180yds/100g)
Color A: Crush (1 skein) , Color A: Berry (3 skeins)
Hook
J/6mm Furls Streamline or hook to obtain gauge
Additional Materials
Pom Pom Makers (3″)
Gauge
Gauge is not critical for this pattern. Approx. 14 sts by 10 rows in pattern = 4”

Ch = chain
St(s) = stitch(es)
Sc = single crochet
Dc = double crochet
Dec = decrease (instructions below)
Notes
This scarf is worked in 3 sections. The increase section, the straight section and the decrease section.You may find it helpful to mark the beginning of the straight section and decrease section with a stitch marker. This will make it easier to count the rows.
Special Stitches
Decrease (dec): Insert hook in the first stitch indicated, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through 3 remaining loops.

Alderwood Scarf Free Crochet Pattern Instructions
Increase Section
With color A ch 2
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook. (1)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, (sc, dc) in the sc. (2)
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, (sc, dc) in each st. (4)
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, *sc in the next, dc in the next; repeat from * across. (4)
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, (sc, dc) in each st across. (8)
Row 6 and 7: Repeat row 4. (8)
Row 8: Ch 1, turn, (sc, dc) in the first 2 sts, *sc in the next, dc in the next; repeat from * until 2 sts remain, (sc, dc) in the last 2 sts. (12)
Repeat rows 6 through 8 until you have 23 rows. Each repeat of row 8 will add 4 sts, you will end with 32 sts.
Straight Section
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, *sc in the next, dc in the next; repeat from * across. (32)
Repeat row 1 following the stripe pattern below until the scarf is approximately 66″ long.
Stripe pattern: 1 more row color A, 1 row color B, 6 rows color A, 2, rows color B, 5 rows color A, 3 rows color B, 4 rows color A, 4 rows color B, 3 rows color A, 5 rows color B, 2 rows color A, 6 rows color B, 1 rows color A.
Work the rest of the scarf in color B
Decrease Section
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, sc in the 1st, skip 1, dc in the next, skip 1, *sc in the next, dc in the next; repeat from * until 4 sts remain, skip 1, sc in the next, skip 1, dc in the last. (28)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, *sc in the next, dc in the next; repeat from * across. (28)
Row 3: Repeat row 2. (28)
Repeat rows 1-3 until you have 18 total rows for the decrease section. (8)
Row 19: Ch 1, turn, dec 4 times. (4)
Row 20: repeat row 2. (4)
Row 21: Ch 1, turn, dec 2 times. (2)
Row 22: Ch 1, turn, dec once. (1)
Fasten off.
Finishing
Make one pom pom in each color using your favorite method. I used a 2.5” Clover pom pom maker. Block, weave in ends, attach pom poms.
