The Stauffer Shawl Free Tunisian Crochet Pattern is perfect if you’re new to Tunisian crochet and want to try it out!
I designed this shawl so you can use any weight yarn. For the sample I used
1 skein KT and the Squid Twist Squid Sock in colorway Urban Reflection (360 yrds)
2 KT and the Squid Squidlets (minis) in the colorways Molly and Poe
Choose a hook with a cord quite a bit larger than you would normally use. For my sock weight I used a K/6.5mm
This shawl started with just a few stitches. more stitches are added at the beginning of each row making an asymmetrical triangle.
Each row consists of a return pass.
For the sample I used the entire skein of Urban Reflection then changed colors to the first mini until that ran out and finished with the second mini. You can get creative and play with the striping more if you’d like.
Ch = chain
St(s) = stitch(es)
RP = return pass
Tss – tunisian simple stitch
Return Pass (RS): Yarn over, pull through first loop, *yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook; Rep from * across row until 1 loop remains on hook.
Tunisian Simple Stitch (Tss): Insert hook behind vertical bar, yarn over, pull up a loop.
Need a little help? Kim Guzman has a ton of videos HERE!
Row 1: Pull up a loop in the front and back loop of the 2nd ch from hook (3 loops on hook), RP.
Row 2: Tss in the bar just below the working loop, pull up a loop between the 1st and 2nd sts, tss in the next st, leave the last st unworked (4 loops on hook), RP
Row 3: Tss in the bar just below the working loop, pull up a loop between the 1st and 2nd sts, tss in each st leaving the last st unworked (5 loops on hook), RP
Repeat row 3 adding 1 st each row until you are just about out of yarn (you will need enough yarn to finish off)
Last Row: *Tss in the next st and pull through the loop on hook; repeat from * across, fasten off.
Block, weave in ends.
