Catrine Square Free Crochet Pattern
This 6 inch free crochet square is worked in the round to be joined into a crochet blanket.

The Catrine Square was designed as part of the Mélange Blanket CAl with Marie of Underground Crafter. You can find out more about this year long CAL be heading to the announcement post HERE. I’ve always been a fan of blanket squares that start off and a circle then square off and that’s what I decided to do with the Catrine Square. If you need a little help with this pattern I’ve included a little video tutorial below.

Approximately 32 yards
Hook
J/6 mm hook (or hook to obtain gauge)
Abbreviations
Ch = chain
St = stitch
Sc = single crochet
Hdc = half double crochet
Dc = double crochet
Fpdc = front post double crochet
Dc2tog = double crochet 2 together
BLO = back loop only
Notes
–The ch 1 at the beginning of each row does NOT count as a stitch.
-The size of this square can be adjusted by using a different hook.
Gauge
Finished square will be 6”
Instructions
Round 1: In magic ring ch 3 (counts as a dc) and make 11 dc in the ring, pull the ring closed, join with a slip st to the first st. (12 sts)
Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as a hdc), fpdc in the same st, (hdc, fpdc) in each st around, join with a slip st to the first st. (24 sts)
Round 3: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), working in the BLO dc2tog, ch 2; repeat from * around, join with a slip st to the first st. (12 dc2tog, 12 ch-2 spaces)
Round 4: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), *sc in the next st, 3 sc in the next ch-2 space; repeat from * around, join with a slip st to the first st. (48 sts)
Round 5: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next, hdc in the next 3, sc in the next 5, hdc in the next 3; repeat from *, join with a slip st to the first st. (60 sts)
Round 6: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in the first 2, *(sc, ch 2, sc ) in the next ch-2 space, in the next 15; repeat from * 2 more times (sc, ch 2, sc), sc in the next 13, join with a slip st to the first st. (68 sc, 4 ch-2 spaces)
Round 7:Ch 1 (does not count as a st), working in the BLO sc in the first 3, *(sc, ch 2, sc ) in the next ch-2 space, working in the BLO sc in the next 17; repeat from * 2 more times (sc, ch 2, sc), working in the BLO sc in the next 15, join with a slip st to the first st. (76 sc, 4 ch-2 spaces)
