Gauge is not critical for this project but the shawl should measure 3.5“ tall and 3“ wide after row 8.

Instructions

Ch 4

Row 1: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook (skipped chs count as a dc, turn. (3 dc)

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as a dc from here on), 2 dc in the same dc, dc in the last dc, turn. (4 dc)

Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dc between the 1st and 2nd dc, 3 dc in last dc, turn. (6 dc)

Row 4: Ch 3, 2 dc in the same dc, sk 1 dc dc, 3 dc between next 2 dc, dc in the last dc, turn. (7 dc)

Row 5: Ch 3, 2 dc between the 1st 2 dc, skip 2 dc, 3 dc between the next 2 dc, 3 dc in the last, turn. (9 dc)

Row 6: Ch 3, 2 dc in the same dc, skip 1 dc, 3 dc between next 2 dc, skip 2 dc, 3 dc between the next 2 dc, dc in the last dc, turn. (10 dc)

Row 7: Ch 3, 2 dc between the 1st 2 dc, *skip 2 dc, 3 dc between the next 2 dc; repeat from * until 3 dc remain, 3 dc in the last, turn. (12 dc)

Row 8: Ch 3, 2 dc in the same dc, skip 1 dc, 3 dc between next 2 dc, *skip 2 dc, 3 dc between the next 2 dc; repeat from * until 3 dc remain, dc in the last dc, turn. (13 dc)

Gauge check: At this point the piece should measure 3.5” tall by 3” wide (across row 8)

Free Crochet Shawl Pattern - Vera Shawl

Repeat rows 7 and 8 until you have 76 total rows (or until you’ve used up 4 of the 5 balls of Color A ending on an even row)

Continue repeating rows 7 and 8 changing color every row, *work one row Color B, one row Color C and one row Color A; repeat from * until you have 91 total rows or to desired length. If using the yarn called for you should have enough yarn to work a few more rows to make it larger if you’d like.

Each repeat of row 7 will add 2 sts, each repeat of row 8 will add 1 st.

Finishing

Block. Weave in ends.
