Materials

Plymouth Encore Worsted (75% acylic, 25% wool; 200 yards/ 100g; worsted/4 weight)

1 ball each of Dove (9801), Lagoon (0459) and Living Coral (0461)

H/5mm hook

I/5.5mm hook

Size

60″ around by 7.5″ wide.

Abbreviations

Ch = chain
St = stitch
Sc = single crochet
Esc = extended single crochet
Eesc = extra extended single crochet
Rs = right side
Ws = wrong side
FLO = front loop only

Gauge

12 sts by 10 rows in pattern

With larger hook ch a multiple of 4 +1
Row 1 (rs): With smaller hook esc in the 2nd ch from hook and each ch across.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, working in the FLO esc in each st across.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, working in the FLO esc in the 1st 3, *eesc in the unworked front loop of the next st 2 rows below, esc in the next 3; repeat from * until 1 st remains, esc in the last st.
Row 4: Repeat row 2.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, working in the FLO esc in the 1st st, *eesc in the unworked front loop of the next st 2 rows below, esc in the next 3; repeat from * until 3 sts remains, eesc in the unworked front loop of the next st 2 rows below, esc in the last 2.

Repeat rows 2-5 until desired length.

Notes

This pattern is worked in the rounds.

When instructed to join you will join with a slip stitch to the first st of the round.

Stripe pattern: Work all odd numbered rows in the main color and each even numbered row in a contrasting color.

Instructions

With larger hook and main color ch 180, being careful not to twist join to the first ch with a slip stitch.

Round 1 (rs): With smaller hook esc in the 2nd ch from hook and each ch around, join. (180)

Round 2: Ch 1, turn, working in the FLO esc in each st around, join. (180)

Round 3: Ch 1, turn, working in the FLO esc in the 1st 3, *eesc in the unworked front loop of the next st 2 rounds below, esc in the next 3; repeat from * until 1 st remains, esc in the last st, join. (180)

Round 4: Repeat round 2. (180)

Round 5: Ch 1, turn, working in the FLO esc in the 1st st, *eesc in the unworked front loop of the next st 2 rounds below, esc in the next 3; repeat from * until 3 sts remains, eesc in the unworked front loop of the next st 2 rounds below, esc in the last 2, join. (180)

Repeat roundss 2-5 until you have 19 rounds total or to desired length.

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Did I mention this cowl is reversible? Well it is! Just flip it around for a solid stripe pattern.
