Ch = chain

St(s) = stitch(es)

Sc = single crochet

Dc = double Crochet

CL = cluster

Notes
This shawl is worked from the bottom up increasing at the beginning and end of every row.

Crossed dc sts are worked in the ch-2 spaces on either side of the CL sts.

CL sts are worked in the space between the two dc of the crossed dc sts. 

Numbers in parentheses at the end of each row are the stitch counts.

Gauge 

Gauge is not critical for this project but the shawl should measure 2.5“ tall and 4“ wide after row 6.

Special Stitches

Crossed dc: Skip the next ch-2 space and CL, dc in the next ch-2 space, working in front of the dc just made dc in the skipped ch-2 space.

Crossed dc sts are worked in the ch-2 spaces on either side of the CL sts.

Cluster (CL): (Yarn over, insert hook in indicated space, pull up a loop) 3 times, yarn over, pull through all 7 loops on hook.

CL sts are worked in the space between the two dc of the crossed dc sts.

Instructions

Start by making three 3.5” tassels. Set aside. 

Shawl Instructions

Ch 4

Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from hook( skipped sts count as a dc), turn. (3 dc)

Row 2: Ch 1, (sc, ch 2, CL, ch 2, sc) in space between the 2 dc, turn. (2 sc, 1 CL)

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as a dc from here on), 2 dc in first sc, crossed dc in the ch-2 spaces on either side of the CL st, 3 dc in the last sc, turn. (6 dc, 1 crossed dc)

Row 4: Ch 1, (sc, ch 2, CL) in the space between the first and second dc, ch 2, sc in the next dc, ch 2, CL in the space of the two dc of the next crossed dc, ch 2, sc in the next dc, ch 2, (CL, ch 2, sc) in the space between the last 2 dc, turn. (4 sc, 3 CL)

Row 5: Ch 3, 2 dc in the first sc, *crossed dc in the ch-2 spaces on either side of the CL st, dc in the next sc; repeat from * to the last sc 2 more dc in the last sc (for a total of 3 dc in the last sc), turn. (8 dc, 3 crossed dc)

Row 6: Ch 1, (sc, ch 2, CL) in the space between the first and second dc, ch 2, sc in the next dc, *ch 2, CL in the space of the two dc of the next crossed dc, ch 2, sc in the next dc; repeat from * until 2 dc remain, ch 2, (CL, ch 2, sc) in the space between the last 2 dc, turn. (6 sc, 5 CL)

At this point your piece should measure about 2.5“ tall and 4“ wide. 

Repeat rows 5 and 6 for a total of 68 rows. Each repeat of row 5 will add 2 dc and 2 crossed dc. Each repeat of row 6 will add 2 sc and 2 CL. (68 sc, 67 CL)

Repeat row 5 one more time for a total of 69 rows. (72 dc, 67 crossed dc)

If you’d like to adjust the size of the shawl, repeat rows 5 and 6 as many times as you’d like ending on a repeat of row 6.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Block. Weave in ends. Attach tassels to each corner of the shawl.
